IOMU 2025 Workshop aims to provide occupational medicine specialists and occupational health interests with practical knowledge and skills in various important aspects of the occupational medicine field. Each session is designed to address real challenges met in the workplace, from industrial hygiene, return to work strategies for workers with chronic illnesses and functional capacity evaluation in occupational health perspective, also how to perform on impairment evaluation.
By presenting leading experts and using an interactive approach, participants will gain an in-depth and applicable learning experience.
To maintain the quality of training, each workshop session will have a limited participant quota. By ensuring an optimal number of participants, the interaction between attendees and facilitators can be more focused, guaranteeing that each participant receives adequate attention and maximum benefit. The quota for each workshop is determined based on the capacity of the designated venue.
Industrial hygiene is one of the backbone of preventing occupational diseases. This session will explore how good industrial hygiene practices can prevent exposure to hazardous materials to the workers and create a healthy and safe work environment. Participants will understand the risk control techniques, from hazard identification to implement the mitigation measurement based on in-depth risk studies from related national institutions and international experts. This will ensure workers stay healthy and productive.
For workers with chronic illnesses, returning to the workplace is a complex challenge for occupational medicine specialist and a competent occupational health practitioner. This session discusses the importance of a holistic return-to-work program, involving medical management, workplace adjustments, and psychosocial support. Based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework, participants will learn to conduct return-to-work assessments for workers with chronic illnesses, understand workers' perceptions and cognitions of return to work programs and how to design interventions that support workers to return to productivity without compromising their health.
Fitness to Work and Return to Work evaluation are essential in Occupational Medicine and Occupational Health daily practice to ensure all workers can perform their job well. Functional capacity evaluations allow companies to assess whether workers are capable of performing specific tasks safely and efficiently. This session provides occupational health practical insight into how to evaluate workers' physical abilities in relation to their job demands. With this approach, companies can reduce the risk of accidents and improve the overall performance of work teams.
Impairment evaluation is a key element in occupational medicine to determine the impact of a medical condition on work function and to be used as a consideration for worker’s compensation needs. This session teaches how to apply the American Medical Association (AMA) guidelines in impairment assessment which so far is the standard used in Indonesia Occupational Medicine practice. Participants will learn how to integrate medical evaluations with job demands to support more objective decisions in the context of insurance or disability claims. After attending this workshop, participants are expected to be able to accurately assess anatomical and functional impairment using the 6th Edition of the AMA Guides.
